Texts of ayurveda recommend examination of semen while treating male infertility. The sperms in semen may lose capacity to fertilize egg if they are vitiated by doshas like vata, pitta and kapha. The features of vitiated semen are as follows.
The semen affected by vata will be frothy, thin and loses its stickiness. It is less in volume and thin in consistency. The ejaculation of vata affected semen will be painful.
The semen affected by vitiated pitta looks yellow in color and has offensive odor. The ejaculation is accompanied with burning sensation in penis.
When kapha affects semen, it increases stickiness of semen and takes long time to liquefy.
Apart from these traumas, injury etc may lead to appearance of blood in semen
